Not only an industrial Transformation might take Place here ‒ but also a social One.
In full awareness of both the challenges of a sustainable economy and our common history, we want to ensure that while we benefit from various location advantages, Namibian society benefits from our endevours as well.
Namibia is located on the Atlantic west coast of southern Africa and, whilst having a population of about 2.5 million, is about 2.3 times the size of Germany. Geographically, Namibia is ideally located for the international movement of goods via sea: the European, North and South American markets can be reached quickly by travelling only the Atlantic, all:
The European market is particularly susceptible to delays in deliveries from East Asia. The transport time via sea from Namibia to Germany is only about 20 days on average.
The extremely high solar radiation makes Namibia an ideal location for collecting solar energy: The region of the Tropic of Capricorn ensures extended cloudless periods due to its trade wind climate while offering perfect angles of incidence at the same time. This allows PV-installations to run economically and ecologically efficiently under full load.
With an average of over 2,000 full-load hours per year, global peak values can be achieved locally, more than twice the yield in Germany.
Measured against the total population, Namibia has a relatively high number of jobseekers. The skilled workers required in the steel mill and other areas (e.g. for logistics, raw material extraction, maintenance) can be optimally qualified for the respective field of application in locally integrated training centers. The pull effect for other companies (services, retail, gastronomy) in the surrounding area is just as much of a factor in the medium term as an indirect optimisation of infrastructure and public quality of stay.
The company’s innovative, ecological-technological setup has the potential for global appeal: NAMSTEEL attaches great importance to the fact that both employees and the population perceive the company as an genuine element of their own society. Significant parts of the added value are created and always remain in Namibia.
Namibia is a successful, stable democracy with a strong will for economic cooperation and innovation. The country maintains a well-positioned infrastructure and has recently initiated several cooperations and projects to promote climate-neutral freight transport and raw material extraction, including with the Federal Republic of Germany. The Namibian economy is a “hidden champion” that plays a key role in the industrial and ecological transformation beyond Africa.
