Our Vision
Green Steel

Fossil-based Steelmaking is a discontinued Model.

Low-emission steelmaking routes are already being researched and implemented around the world. But when it comes to zero emission, how do you achieve the real deal – and thus green steel?

Our Path to Zero

NAMSTEEL was founded in 2023 in Windhoek, Namibia with the goal of becoming the world’s first 100% CO2-neutral steel mill. The sun as an energy source as well as hydrogen as a reduction agent build the foundation for one of the most advanced and future-proof steel mills in the world. By this, NAMSTEEL aims to become a pioneer in the production of real green steel. Planning for both the solar power plant and the hydrogen-, reduction- and steelmaking-facilities will be completed in 2025.

Schematics of our steel route: The basis is the solar park, providing emission-free electricity. This is used on site to produce green hydrogen, which in turn is used to reduce iron ore to sponge iron. Electricity and hydrogen can also be used as energy sources for all connected areas of production (further processing, transport, etc.).
